The smells coming from the bakery are beautiful this time of year, particularly the delicious aromas from our Almond and Fig Chocolate Panforte. Panforte is a traditional Italian Christmas hard fruit cake with a rich chewy texture.
Our Irrewarra Sourdough Chocolate Panforte is made to the classic Italian recipe. It’s a rich nougat-style cake full of figs, roasted almonds, glace citrus, raisins, dark chocolate, honey and spice and is delicious as a sweet treat with a cup of coffee or a dessert wine after dinner.
The history of panforte dates back to 13th century Siena in Italy’s Tuscany region where it’s said the spicy bread like cake was paid as a tax to the monks and nuns of a local monastery.
Just like the Italian tradition, we wrap our Chocolate Panforte in beautiful thick patterned paper so it’s perfect as a Christmas gift for that special someone, particularly the foodie in the family.
When serving our Chocolate Panforte, dust it with icing sugar to give it the festive look of snow and finely slice.
